Graphics Universal Answers the Co-Packers Call to Keep Their Bins Identified

Executive Summary

During a recent visit, a co-packing prospect mentioned they were having a difficult time with their bin ID tags remaining attached to their product bins, and in a good enough shape to be scanned as they traveled through their process.

The co-packer’s process requires the ID tag to be placed on the bin before being transported to their vendor-grower and scanned when the bins are returned to their site and unloaded at the completion of the process.  Finally, when the bin has completed its full cycle, the tag is removed and held as a backup confirmation.

Challenge

The ID tag needs to stay attached and scannable while being transported on highways, through orchards, and in hot and cold, wet, and dry weather conditions.

Solution

The Graphics Universal solution was to replace the pressure-sensitive label with a non-stick synthetic ID tag. The new, non-stick, synthetic tag will be placed in a holder that was already in the bin. This new synthetic tag has proven to hold up very well under extreme weather conditions. It can be placed in the molded plastic bins or stapled to the wood bins.

The Graphic’s Solution did not end with the recommendation to print the bin ID tag on a synthetic stock. The Graphics Universal solution was a truly end-to-end solution by enabling our new client to compose and print the ID tag using a Graphics Universal developed custom tag generator, ensuring the information was complete on the ID tag. The template also included drop-down menus to ensure tags were populated correctly and quickly.

How The Graphic Universal Inc. Experience Was Different

Most solutions would end with proposing the new synthetic tag stock however the Graphics Universal solution went the extra step by creating a PDF template that enabled our client to populate and generate the bin tag more accurately and in less time.

Results, Return on Investment

It is difficult to determine the exact time and cost savings but our client believes it to be material as the previous labels did not adhere well and were a distraction, requiring a constant effort to fix and/or staple the pressure-sensitive tags to the plastic and wood bins. Also, when the bins were washed, extra effort was required to remove the adhesive from the plastic bins. With the addition of the custom tag generator, we are confident that the time savings will result in a cost savings of at least double the cost of the synthetic tags or $1,000.00.
